my dream, is it just a dream??????
Hey guys, how do you interpret the song American Pie by Don McLean?
Please don't give me links to websites like www.songmeanings.net because I am just interested in what you guys think.
Thankyou, lyrics are below, incase you need refreshing :)

A long, long time ago...
I can still remember
How that music used to make me smile.
And I knew if I had my chance
That I could make those people dance
And, maybe, they'd be happy for a while.

But February made me shiver
With every paper I'd deliver,
Bad news on the doorstep;
I couldn't take one more step.

I can't remember if I cried
When I read about his widowed bride,
But something touched me deep inside
The day the music died.

So bye-bye, Miss American Pie,
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinkin' whiskey and rye
Singin', "this'll be the day that I die,"
"This'll be the day that I die."

Did you write the book of love,
And do you have faith in God above,
If the Bible tells you so?
Do you believe in rock 'n roll,
Can music save your mortal soul,
And can you teach me how to dance real slow?

Well, I know that you're in love with him
'Cause I saw you dancin' in the gym.
You both kicked off your shoes.
Man, I dig those Rhythm and Blues.

I was a lonely teenage broncin' buck
With a pink carnation and a pickup truck,
But I knew I was out of luck,
The day the music died.

I started singin',
"Bye-Bye, Miss American Pie."
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinkin' whiskey and rye
Singin', "this'll be the day that I die."
"This'll be the day that I die."

Now for ten years we've been on our own
And moss grows fat on a rollin' stone,
But that's not how it used to be.
When the Jester sang for the King and Queen,
In a coat he borrowed from James Dean
And a voice that came from you and me,

Oh, and while the King was looking down,
The Jester stole his thorny crown.
The courtroom was adjourned;
No verdict was returned.
And while Lennon read a Book of Marx,
The quartet practiced in the park,
And we sang dirges in the dark
The day the music died.

We were singing,
"Bye-Bye, Miss American Pie."
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinkin' whiskey and rye
Singin', "this'll be the day that I die."
"This'll be the day that I die."

Helter Skelter in a Summer swelter.
The birds flew off with a fallout shelter,
Eight miles high and falling fast.
It landed foul on the grass.
The players tried for a forward pass,
With The Jester on the sidelines in a cast.

Now the half-time air was sweet perfume
While the sergeants played a marching tune.
We all got up to dance,
Oh, but we never got the chance!
'Cause the players tried to take the field;
The marching band refused to yield.
Do you recall what was revealed
The day the music died?

We started singing,
"Bye-Bye, Miss American Pie."
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinkin' whiskey and rye
Singin', "this'll be the day that I die."
"This'll be the day that I die."

Oh, and there we were all in one place,
A generation lost in space
With no time left to start again.
So come on: Jack be nimble, Jack be quick!
Jack flash sat on a candlestick
Cause fire is The Devil's only friend.

Oh, and as I watched him on the stage
My hands were clenched in fists of rage.
No angel born in hell
Could break that Satan's spell.
And as the flames climbed high into the night,
To light the sacrificial rite,
I saw Satan laughing with delight,
The day the music died.

He was singing,
"Bye-Bye, Miss American Pie."
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinkin' whiskey and rye
Singin', "this'll be the day that I die."
"This'll be the day that I die."

I met a girl who sang the Blues
And I asked her for some happy news,
But she just smiled and turned away.
I went down to the sacred store
Where I'd heard the music years before,
But the man there said the music wouldn't play.

And in the streets: the children screamed,
The lovers cried, and the poets dreamed.
But not a word was spoken;
The church bells all were broken.
And the three men I admire most:
The Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost,
They caught the last train for the coast
The day the music died.

And they were singing,
"Bye-Bye, Miss American Pie."
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
And them good old boys were drinkin' whiskey and rye,
Singin', "this'll be the day that I die."
"This'll be the day that I die."

They were singing,
"Bye-Bye, Miss American Pie."
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinkin' whiskey and rye
Singin', "this'll be the day that I die."

Don McLean's American Pie? What do you think?
I asked this question. and these are my views. Its long but its really good stuff. Its all my own. I am a 16 year old popular kid in high school, I'm one of those jocks you see who is mean to the nerds and makes fun of the emo kids. but these are my true thoughts.

The typical American life: A man is looking for happiness, he says when I finish high school at the top of my class with a scholarship to the college I want I will find happiness; he gets to the point and nothing. He says when I finish my doctorate degree and am making a 6 figure income I will find happiness; he gets to that point and nothing. He says when I buy my new Cadillac Escalade I will find happiness; when he buys his dream car he still doesn’t find happiness. He says maybe if I get married and start a family I will find happiness; he gets to that point and finds nothing. The point to this is that the man is only looking for the next step but he doesn’t stop to look at himself internally to find what he really needs; after one fails his mind immediately rushes him to find something different to replace it, finishing college, making money, buying a new car, and starting a family. The man grows old and when doctors detect cancer in him he realizes that his whole life was a joke. He did everything always looking for the next step and didn’t take time to appreciate his life daily. Morrie said “So many people walk around with a meaningless life. This is because they're chasing the wrong things.”
Americans are guilty of this nonsense, everything we do is somehow connected to economic pursuits, and we never do anything for other people unless we are getting something in return, for example charity because we pay less taxes that way. “People get buried in work and money” what is one of the most common ways to get to have good work and a lot of money? An education! Some people spend 24 years or more in school to reach their ultimate goal; make a lot of money. Morrie said “Throw down your books the only thing you have to lose is grades” what is it with education? Why does everybody want it? Why is it destructive and unimportant for the sake of human kind, but so important to for the sake of society? What’s a grade? Nothing more than ink on a piece of paper, it symbolizes not how intelligent you are but how well you adapt to the system of society. If I wanted to I could write an A on my paper, and in fact if I don’t like a class I shouldn’t even do it because for me personally there is no gain in learning that information and it is a waste of my time. But contrarily I do because I have to play this American game of materialism.
Where is education going to take me? I spend 12 years of my life to finish high school and 12 more years in college if I want to become a doctor a lawyer something that makes me a lot of money. What will I do with all that money invest so I can make more, be like everybody else, Buy nice things that will get old in a couple of years on purpose so I have to keep buying new ones? Give it away? Why? I made that money with hard work! Yet again, if I didn’t have money where would I live? Would I have food? If I made just enough money to get by I would want more wouldn’t I? And I would probably have a bad job since most low paying jobs are bad. What else could I be doing with those 24 years of my life plus all the time I’m going to be working in my career field doing exactly the same thing over and over again. For example have you ever thought of it? Why school takes so long to finish? It’s pure bureaucracy; school is a business; it provides jobs, why does it take so long? School is very repetitive we don’t learn anything different just a step further each school year, why don’t we just learn everything at once? Because if we did we wouldn’t need that many teachers meaning unemployment; because if we did the rate of drop outs would decrease and too many people would go to college and not enough stay behind to do the dirty work, the truth is not everybody can go to college; because if we did people would be a lot smarter and see all these things, because they would have more time to comprehend philosophy, people would rise and want a new government. But I follow it why? We’re all puppets, the difference between you and I is I am a puppet who can see the strings. (Words of wisdom, Richy).
It’s ridiculous it makes me realize what the point of life is, what we are really doing here and what will happen to us when we die. We have to live our life to the fullest every day and society does not let us do that. Society tells us go to school get an education make money so when you are older you don’t struggle. This is my point what is more important? Wasting 24 years of your life in school or having 24 years of your life full of memories with family and friends doing whatever it is that you love to do. I understand school is a big part of social life all I’m saying is one should study what they want If I learn something I’m not g

who thinks like me?! I'm 16 years old and I have a view on life most people don't share. do you?
Quotes from Mark Twain:

Faith is believing something you know ain't true."

"'In God We Trust.' I don't believe it would sound any better if it were true."

"It ain't the parts of the Bible that I can't understand that bother me, it is the parts that I do understand."

"Religion consists in a set of things which the average man thinks he believes and wishes he was certain of."

"There is no other life; life itself is only a vision and a dream for nothing exists but space and you. If there was an all-powerful God, he would have made all good, and no bad." Mark Twain in Eruption

"Our Bible reveals to us the character of our god with minute and remorseless exactness... It is perhaps the most damnatory biography that exists in print anywhere. It makes Nero an angel of light and leading by contrast" Reflections on Religion, 1906

"O Lord our God, help us tear their soldiers to bloody shreds with our shells; help us to cover their smiling fields with the pale forms of their patriot dead; help us to drown the thunder of the guns with the shrieks of their wounded, writhing in pain; help us to lay waste their humble homes with a hurricane of fire; help us to wring the hearts of their unoffending widows with unavailing grief; help us to turn them out roofless with their little children to wander unfriended the wastes of their desolated land in rags and hunger and thirst, sports of the sun flames of summer and the icy winds of winter, broken in spirit, worn with travail, imploring Thee for the refuge of the grave and denied it..." "The War Prayer"

"[The Bible is] a mass of fables and traditions, mere mythology." Mark Twain and the Bible

"Man is a marvelous curiosity ... he thinks he is the Creator's pet ... he even believes the Creator loves him; has a passion for him; sits up nights to admire him; yes and watch over him and keep him out of trouble. He prays to him and thinks He listens. Isn't it a quaint idea." Letters from the Earth

"If there is a God, he is a malign thug."

Mr. Clemens was once asked whether he feared death. He said that he did not, in view of the fact that he had been dead for billions and billions of years before he was born, and had not suffered the slightest inconvenience from it.

"[The Bible] has noble poetry in it... and some good morals and a wealth of obscenity, and upwards of a thousand lies."

"In religion and politics people's beliefs and convictions are in almost every case gotten at second-hand, and without examination, from authorities who have not themselves examined the questions at issue but have taken them at second-hand from other non-examiners, whose opinions about them were not worth a brass farthing." Autobiography of Mark Twain by Samuel Clemens

Was Mark Twain an Atheist, or not? I say yes, your opinion?
It was totally unprecedented on my dreaming experience.

Quick Summary: Two nights ago, I dreamed that I was time-traveling. I don't really know how. I just went to this brick building in NYC and this guy would let me go in some sort of electrical field that enables me to time travel (sort of like inFamous.) I didn't even know why. I went back in time as a six year old. I was in a house with no one in it. I've never seen the house before and have no idea why CNN was on TV showing the news. The news was about 9/11. I suddenly get teleported (like how dreams shift from one situation to another.) I was in front of the Capitol and George Bush was giving a speech about 9/11 which happened recently.

THEN, I saw a friend of mine there who I HADN'T met until seventh grade. We have a very good relationship (no not like that.) I noticed it was him because the resemblance is clear, plus I had a feeling I had to talk to him. Somehow a camera came out of nowhere and I grabbed it just to videotape me and him talking.

Then, I went back to the future (idk how I forget some stuff that occurs in my dreams) and was about to show the video recording to him at school (I kept the camera somehow :D.) The reason was to show everyone that I went back in time. The dream ended afterward.

I dreamed that I was time-traveling. What does this mean?
Hello people,

Im currently living in North York Ontario :) So to graduate you need 30 credits and 40hr community involvement :) But sadly i have 0hr and I'm in GRADE 12. So i need the hours. I'm aiming for more then 40hrs though and i have a free schedule.

So my question is, is there any place where i can get my hours and is related to a field in research or in aerospace? I ask because I'm trying to get in Aerospace Engineering (and any field to follow my dream and find the unknown while working for the military building aeronautical stuff and making missiless/weapons and defense system,) and if i have hours in that field i can probably be nominated for a special scholarship and I'm also aiming for high marks as well ;)

So please help a brother out

A question about community Involvement?
With graduation just around the corner, and the option of pursuing my dream of entering into the legal field approaching quickly, I have to ask current lawyers in every area the big question..is it worth it?
I've heard many times that law school graduates are not finding jobs, which leaves them in dire straits with unpaid loans. Is this statement unsubstantiated? Are lawyers still having trouble finding jobs, or is it those alienated and few graduates that spread these rumors?
Also, what are the major trends in the legal industry. If I had to name a few, I would say:
1) Privacy Law
2) International Law
3) Technology law

Thank you!

What is the future of the legal industry?
Ok, I'm a 26 year old female living in St. Louis. I have a B.S. degree from a University. I've been out of school for four years and still don't have a clue what I want to do with my life. I majored in Criminal Justice but since graduating have decided I do not want to pursue that field. My problem is that nothing seems to interest me enough to pursue for the rest of my life. My interests don't seem to lead me toward any career type jobs.

I love music so I thought about a career in that, perhaps radio, booking, working at a record label, etc. I've worked at a local concert venue but only part time. I have no other experience so I can't seem to get a job in this field, and I've been trying for over a year.

My long term dream job would be to own a small venue that is able to book nationaly known bands. On a more realistic scale I would like to own or manage a local bar that is known for local bands playing.

I've also looked into real estate and apartment leasing, but haven't found anything or been hired in that field either. Basically I just don't know what to do. I've been working in retail since I've graduated and am desperate to get a new job. My work experience consists of clerical work and retail for the most part, but I'm not interested in that.

If anyone has any suggestions on what I can do, or maybe just some advice for me I would really appreciate it. Thanks a lot.

Finding the right career....I need help!?
i can only remember the last bit...

i was in my neighborhood back home and my ex was apparently a neighbor..my cat was in my dream as well.
anyways...i was joking around with my ex and he got pissed. after that i started to walk home with my cat following me.
when i got half way back to my house (i live in the country) a tiger ran out of the woods and stopped right in front of me.
i got really scared and just stood still, but it wasn't after me...first it tried to get something from a tree..then there were a bunch of kangaroos in the field to my left that it started for.
i picked up my cat and as soon as it was far enough away, then i ran straight for home.
i don't know if i made it or not but at that point i woke up.
