All right, so if anyone has noticed that the Harry Potter series and the Mortal Instrument series (City of Bones, Ashes and Glass) are very similar?
Such as:
The 3 tools- the cloak, stone and wand vs. the cup, mirror and sword. In both series the antagonist (Voldemort vs. Valentine - and both start with V's!) try to obtain those objects to gain the most power.
Death Eaters vs. Circle
Both Voldemort and Valentine had their own group of followers, which were destroyed, some who abandoned the group before the destruction and others when they realized that their demise was near.
Voldemort vs. Valentine
Both have their followers, both are (presumably) destroyed before the book started. Both come back, surprising the snot out of everyone. They also believed that their race was the higher race (wizards vs. shadowhunters) and wanted the lower races (humans vs. downworlders) to be subservient to them.

Both books have a boy (Harry Potter vs. Jace) who were raised as an orphan.

Dementors vs. Silent Brothers
While it is also evil vs. good, the two are undoubtedly similar. They give the people around them the creeps, have disfigured faces, and guard the prisons (Azkaban vs. Silent City)

Both storylines have werewolves, vampires, the same basic fairy tale characters.

I believe Cassandra Clare pulled a bit of her story from the Harry Potter series, considering that it was published before hers.
But, I love the writing. I thought the coincidences were just a bit too common.

And it has been stated that Cassandra Clare is a huge fan of Harry Potter. Coincidene? I think NOT.
